Miscellaneous / Re: A structured topic
« on: December 25, 2012, 12:02:21 PM »
I don't think I will ever truly grow tired of it.  I have gone a year without watching or reading anything, but I came back to it eventually.  I'm 26 and I still enjoy manga and anime, and many of my friends are 30+ and they still enjoy it is well.  At least 3 of my friends are married and they enjoy anime together with their spouses, and 1 of them has 2 kids and they enjoy anime and general nerdery with their kids.

Anime and manga today is much more ubiquitous than it was 10-20 years ago and it's appeal to greater audiences has grown as well.  I don't think it's something that you really "grow out of" so to speak unless you actively choose to do so.

As far as the evolution of these media, in the past 15 years it's branched out into several very specific genres that appeal to certain groups.  There will always be fanservice and moeblobs, but there will always be well written stories full of creativity and done with passion, you just have to look for it.

I look at it the same way as people who are still into Star Wars and Star Trek.  SW fans and trekkies range from being young to very old.  Even if they don't like current stuff, they'll still enjoy the old stuff from when they grew up.  They never threw that love away.

Miscellaneous / Re: Strange Things

Here are a few things a person has said about North America some things are very strange

http://mickrad.wordpress.com/weird-american-shit/

and I live in North America
I don't mean to take a shit in the middle of a game of twister but I had to comment on this.

The way this blogger presents things is pretty disgusting, it only proves that his scope of America is severely limited and thinks really inconsequential things are "weird american shit".  All the bad stuff he describes just tells me he lives in a sucky place (DC area, lol).  I liked how he criticized KFC for having chicken sandwiches like it was the strangest thing he's ever heard of.  I hope I never have to read something that ignorant again....

But back to the topic, I live in Hawaii and some out of the ordinary stuff that's common here is a skin condition called "Jabu Jabu".  Basically it's a air/water born fungus that about half of the people here are affected with that causes splotchy skin bleaching.  It's harmless and technically curable, but no one seems to care since it doesn't hurt anything.

Miscellaneous / Re: Cosplay gallery [NSFW] xD

Me and my gf actually won a cosplay event at a local con in Hawaii.  We both dressed up as Soul Caliber 3 characters, 2nd player outfits for Xianghua and Kilik.  We had to make everything from scratch, no pre-made parts.  She did the sewing, dying of fabric, and painting while I hand carved the weapons and heat molded accessories.

It also helps that she actually knows Wushu, so our poses were pretty spot on too.
OK, now that’s pretty damn impressive.  And great job on your win!
So did your girlfriend ever tell you if the moves in the game were even accurate to the real thing?  Or did the developers make them up?

Well, I assumed the developers did motion capture of actual martial artists for many of the base moves.  Though the special moves and aerial moves are likely to be purely fictional.  Unfortunately she and I recently broke up so I can't ask her, but from what I remember, she said Xiang Hua's weapon demonstration in the game is based off of an actual Wushu form, and many of the simple moves and combinations are true to life.
